How the date is set

Earth Day is April 22 every year.

Earth Day is an annual day of environmental action and teaching. It is not a public holiday.

Good to know

• The first Earth Day was held in the United States on April 22, 1970.

How this countdown counts

The timer runs to midnight at the start of Earth Day in your own time zone. "Days until" counts calendar days, so tomorrow is always 1 day away. After the day has passed, the countdown moves on to next year by itself.
